Current Halo 4 developer 343 Industries is reportedly working on Halo 2 Anniversary, an HD remake of 2004's first-person shooter originally developed by Bungie Studios. Even though we already told them we don't need it yet?
According to the rumors page of the latest issue of OXM UK, 343 Industries is working on a follow-up to the well-received Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Combat Evolved Anniversary, which released on November 15, 2011, was developed by Saber Interactive with oversight by 343i.
"Following the success of remake Halo Anniversary, 343 Industries has now started development of Halo 2 Anniversary," the magazine claimed.
No details were revealed, but if true, then you can expect a fairly similar type of production. With Combat Evolved Anniversary, gameplay was nearly identical to the original and players had the freedom to switch from the original "classic" graphics or new HD graphics with the push of a button. It also included Xbox LIVE achievements, online co-op play, and hidden content in the form of "terminals" and skulls.
343 Industries is currently wrapping up work on Halo 4, which they say is currently in "super crunch time". As of the latest update, the campaign for Halo 4 was playable from start to finish with some levels being "near complete". Halo 4 is set to release on November 6, 2012.
We don't know how far along Halo 2 Anniversary is in its rumored development, but I'd say if the rumor is true then expect it in fall 2013.
