3D Sonic the Hedgehog and other SEGA 3D Classics discounted on the Nintendo eShop

If you've been hesitant to sample SEGA's thriving 3D Classics line, you won't find a better deal than the one SEGA announced today.

Until July 2, 3DS owners can purchase any of the eight games from the first wave at a reduced price of $2.99 (down from $5.99). This deal means that you can essentially get two games for the price of one, and it's certainly worth the investment if you're in any way a fan of SEGA's back catalogue.

The Wave 1 lineup consists of the following:

  • 3D Altered Beast
  • 3D Ecco the Dolphin
  • 3D Galaxy Force II
  • 3D Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
  • 3D Sonic the Hedgehog
  • 3D Space Harrier
  • 3D Streets of Rage
  • 3D Super Hang-On

If you're not swayed by the idea of ports with 3D functionality tacked on, rest assured that this is not at all the case. SEGA has published several fascinating interviews on the process behind these readapted experiences and the challenges that came with the hardware of their original forms.

The second wave recently arrived on the Nintendo eShop with the likes of 3D Out Run, 3D Thunder Blade and others. In what is sure to be an exciting Summer for longtime SEGA fans, a third wave is on the way and will include 3D Streets of Rage 2 (July), 3D Gunstar Heroes (August), and 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (September).
