3DS game sales up 45 percent over 2012

Nintendo announced today record-breaking numbers for the 3DS in 2013, revealing more than 16 million combined packaged and digital 3DS games were sold in 2013. That's an increase of more than 45 percent over 2012's 3DS game sales.

Aiding the 3DS in sales this year were games like Pokémon X and Pokémon YThe Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Fire Emblem Awakening. And that's just a few of the many games released for 3DS this year. Looking ahead, 2014 sees the release of even more great games including Bravely Default (February 7), Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy (February 28), Yoshi's New Island (March 14), and Disney Magical World (April 11).

"We’re not slowing down in 2014. With more games featuring fan-favorite franchises on the way, the best days of Nintendo 3DS are still to come," added Nintendo of America's Scott Moffitt.

Fans eager for Square Enix's upcoming RPG Bravely Default can actually go hands-on with the game thanks to a free demo now available in the Nintendo eShop. And don't worry about spoiling any plot as the demo features content not included in the main game.
