Indie games have some of the most clever ideas in gaming, in large part because they are looking for a niche in a very competitive space where they can't topple the AAA crowd. Battle Splash is one such indie game that introduces 3rd-Person water shooting into the indie space as a multiplayer shooter inspired by the likes of Doom, Quake, and Team Fortress 2.
One of its main hooks is its violence-free approach, which may not seem like a big deal for gamers in Western countries. But there are a number of nations around the world with stricter laws on the kind of content that can be in games, so Battle Splash could very well leverage those laws to help boost its standing in those nations (and would be smart to do so). Players pick from one of four female characters before being thrust into a chaotic and competitive environment where the best water shooters come out on top.
The game itself is made by one man, Mai Nguyen Binh Hung who serves as Battle Splash's content creator, designer, and programmer. He's been working on the game over the last four years which started as a small multiplayer prototype with partially completed game mechanics. As fate would have it, right before the calendar turned over into 2017, Battle Splash was officially Greenlit by the Steam Community and Hung heads into the new year with a new task at hand.
Here's a list of the game's features per an official Press Release:
- Violence-free, fast-paced, action-packed third-person shooter filled with water and unpredictable splashes.
- Master the game with your very own skills, with mechanics inspired from arena classics like Doom, Quake, and Team Fortress 2.
- eSports-oriented designs for balanced and strategic gameplay, but with simple access for everyone: from casual players to hardcore gamers.
- Play it your way: Freely accessible water weapons for a diversity of play styles. But things can kick up to a notch with unique items for each girl to achieve total chaos.
- Solo? AI bots on the go. Have some friends? Co-op to beat the AI. Have a party? Make a supersized water fight with 32 players on large playgrounds.
- Need something fresh? Customize your own water fights with the help of Modding tool and Steam Workshop.
