50 Cent has ideas for a third video game

Back in the early to mid 2000s, publishers were obsessed with licensed video games. It was an easy cash grab, stamp a popular brand on the box and include iconic people or characters in the game, and watch the money flow in. This worked for a while, regardless of quality, until people figured stopped accepting the heaps of garbage that publishers were churning out. One of the most interesting game franchises to come from this time was the 50 Cent games.

THQ and Vivendi Universal Games published two 50 Cent games respectively, Bulletproof and Blood On The Sand, both of which were third person shooters with over the top action, dialogue, and stories. They weren’t exactly the peak of gaming but they were so ridiculous you couldn’t help but enjoy them. After the major boom of licensed games drifted away and THQ went under, the 50 Cent games died off but the rapper turned actor says he may pursue a third game in the near future.

When speaking to GameSpot for his new film, Den of Thieves, Fiddy talked about his desire to make something unique in the gaming medium.

“Definitely I’m interested,” he said. “I may do something based on the concept that I developed for Tomorrow, Today.”

The aforementioned Tomorrow, Today is an upcoming Starz show about a veteran who gains superpowers after being experimented on. There’s not many other details beyond that but if 50 Cent wants to make another game with him as superpowers, count us in.

“It’s definitely a cool idea,” 50 Cent said. “And it gives people the ability to do things that they wouldn’t be able to do.”

He added that whatever he ends up doing with it, it has “to be extreme.”

“I just have to find the right concept,” he continued. “Everything I touch, I want to be unique. I want it to be special. And I put thought into it, because those things will be here longer than I would…when I come up with [another game], I want to make sure it’s something we enjoy for a long time.”

It sounds like he’s really passionate in making something worthwhile and not forgettable schlock. There’s no word on who 50 Cent wants to choose to make this game with but if he chooses to pursue this project, we’ll keep you posted.

Den of Thieves is in theaters now.
