The love of fans for 2011’s fantasy-RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an undying one it seems. Despite having released originally so many years ago, dedicated and talented fans are still working hard on creating new player experiences. Without a doubt, being able to play Skyrim together with friends has been a much-wanted feature of gamers since the very beginning. It took the developer Bethesda a lot of time to create a multiplayer game with Fallout 76 but the results weren’t really what audiences were hoping for.
The ambitious Skyrim Together mod is looking like the ailment to a hurt gaming fandom however. Who else than the fans themselves know what they want anyway? In this case, it means being able to team up with a party of 8 players and explore the vast world of Skyrim. That alone would be already pretty sweet but the modders behind Skyrim Together have even loftier goals.
Not only will 8 players interact in Skyrim’s world, they will also be able to play through the story as well. A true game changer which could very easy end up make Skyrim Together a mandatory installation for co-op fans of any genre. But there’s more! PC players will also be able to use mods on top of the online mod. The developers are stating that most mods should work without issues, but they still plan on releasing a developer tool for other modders to ensure even better compatibility. Now that’s dedication.
Progress on Skyrim Together has reached its final stages and the developers have recently announced a closed beta for their Patreon backers. That will quickly be followed by an open beta, so that everyone can try out Skyrim with their friends. There’s no concrete release date for the beta but it’s going to happen “soon”.
