80s mech-survival shooter Generation Zero gets a Launch Trailer

From the creators of Just Cause and Mad Max

Avalanche Studios has released the launch trailer for their newest game Generation Zero. The open-world survival game with a focus on co-op multiplayer is coming out this month, on March 26th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Generation Zero is almost upon us and developer & publisher Avalanche Studios is ramping up their game’s promo with a sweet launch trailer. Avalanche could really use some good news after the rather negative reception of the newest installment of their premier franchise Just Cause 4. However, Generation Zero has some interesting cards up its sleeves.

First and foremost, unlike the Just Cause games, GZ is firmly rooted in the survival genre and can boast with a very high-fidelity open-world many of its peers can only dream of. This comes courtesy of the Apex game engine which is also used in JC4. Secondly, Generation Zero gives players the chance to explore a vast and detailed open-world together with up to three friends in online multiplayer.

Welcome to 1980’s Sweden. The local population has gone missing, and machines of unknown origin roam the streets. Explore this vast open world to unravel the mystery of the invaders, perfect your fighting strategies and prepare to strike back. In Generation Zero, living is winning.

Open-world survival games aren’t really that uncommon these days, especially since the huge success of the DayZ mod for Arma 2. Avalanche has decided to try their hands at the much-contested genre by not only upping the ante in terms visual fidelity but also detail. The world in Generation Zero is persistent, meaning enemies you attack and hurt will remain that way in the world. Maybe they’ll wander to another region, but they won’t magically disappear when you log off or venture into another area. This persistent attention to detail is absolutely going to be key in making the survival experience in Generation Zero stand out. Coupled with a rather uncommon 1980s Sweden setting and thank God the absence of zombies in favor of giant mechs, we could very well be looking at the next It game.
