A Just Cause movie is in the works; Jason Momoa to star as Rico Rodriguez

Yes!

Movies based on video games seem to be making a comeback and the latest video game to be getting a movie adaptation is the popular Just Cause franchise, with no other than Jason Momoa as Rico himself.

It was recently announced that a movie based on the Just Cause games, by Avalanche Studios and Square Enix, was in the works, and right from the get go some reassuring names have been revealed to be working on the film.

San Andreas director, Brad Peyton, will be the captain of this production and luckily, Momoa and Peyton has worked together previously in Peyton's Netflix series Frontier so we know they can work together well.  The screenplay of this Just Cause film will be adapted by the man behind Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, John Collee. On top of the Just Cause film, Momoa is set to star as Aquaman in DC Comics' Justice League, as well as in his own standalone Aquaman film.

Few details have been revealed about this upcoming film, besides the fact that Jason Momoa will star as Rico Rodriguez, an agent of the Agency. That is it, the rest of the plot is being kept under wraps so we will have to wait and see if we get either an adaptation of one of the games or a brand new Just Cause story, and if we get to see our bestest friend Mario again.

Something that might shed a bit more light on what to expect is the fact that China-based DNA Pictures has provided the funding for the film. A lot of Chinese-funded movies recently, XXX: Return of Xander Cage and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, have been rather action packed. That, the previous work of the directors, and the Just Cause franchise itself makes for a simple deduction: moviegoers should expect a film filled with high octane action and explosions, everything a Just Cause movie should be filled with.

Stay tuned to GameZone for the latest on the upcoming Just Cause movie and everything video game related.
