Paramount's live-action Ghost in the Shell may not have garnered the response they wanted, but that hasn't stopped Japanese cartoon firm Production I.G. from producing a new Ghost in the Shell anime.
Those directing the anime are Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell SF franchise) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Evangelion). Production I.G. has been vague on details, not disclosing whether it was a feature film or a new series, and the title and date are also unknown.
The Ghost in the Shell franchise saw its first publication as a comic in 1989, which later spawned films, Tv series, video games, a novel, and OVAs. The Scarlett Johansson adaptation of the series was largely inspired by the film of 1995.
