A new image of Rita from the ‘Power Rangers’ movie might clue us in on her backstory

Are we gonna get a taste of Rita's origins?

Lionsgate has released a new image of Rita Repulsa from the upcoming 'Power Rangers' movie which might clue us in on her origin.

Children of the 90's are undoubtedly itching with anticipation for the very first reboot adaptation of the 'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers', slated for next Spring. As the release date approaches, the Lionsgate has been gradually dishing out news, reveals, and pics for the project, most notable are the pics of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.

Until recently, the images have been nothing more than the character striking a new pose, leaving much to be desired. As of today, a new pic has surfaced via twitter that might be giving fans a taste of what her origins entail:

As you can see, it looks very similar to the others…with one exception. This time we get a clear shot of her infamous scepter, at the end of which is something recognizable to those who remember the trailer. You can plainly see what appears to be a green power coin, identical to the ones found by our favorite teenagers with attitude!

Tying in with her line at the end of the trailer when she states "I've killed Rangers before!", it seems that they plan to do some world-building involving a team that predates our current set of Rangers, one of whom may have been Rita herself.

If that weren't enough, the tweet also includes the caption "Stay tuned." followed by #RepulsaTakesOver. Could this mean we're getting another trailer soon, possibly one featuring more Rita? Looks like until we know for sure what it all means…stay tuned!

Power Rangers released March 24, 2017!
