It's time to play the music. It's time to light the lights. It's time for ABC to revive The Muppet Show, and that's what they plan on doing.
ABC has ordered a presentation for a Muppet comedy pilot, and as a fan of the Muppets, I couldn't be more excited. Bill Prady, The Big Bang Theory co-creator, is co-writing the script for the pilot with Bob Kushell (Anger Management, 3rd Rock From the Sun). Wilfred's Randall Einhorn is going to be executive producer and direct the presentation. It's set to film next weekend on the Disney lot in Burbank.
The last time the Muppets had a TV series was Muppets Tonight in 1996 on ABC. Before that the variety The Muppet Show ran for five seasons from 1976 to 1981. However, the Muppets have seen somewhat of a revival with 2011's The Muppets (starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams) and 2014's Muppets Most Wanted (starring Ty Burrell, Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey).
