IGN reports that Acclaim has shut down, but it’s not the first time. Acclaim was a top-notch developer and publisher back in the early to mid-90s. They gave us great SNES and Genesis games such as the Mortal Kombat series, Turok and a handful of Midway arcade ports. Sadly, they shut down in 2004.
A year later Howard Marks, who was once CEO of Activision, later bought the name and reopened it as Acclaim Games and focused on online gaming.
According to IGN, Playdom acquired the company in May of 2010, but yesterday Acclaim announced that they would be shutting their doors.
Currently, going to Acclaim’s website shows a blank page with an email address that users can use to be reimbursed for unused “Acclaim Coins.”
