Wii U fans eager to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 shouldn't give up hope just yet. While Activision has only announced the latest installment of its popular first-person shooter franchise for current-gen systems only (Xbox One, PS4, and PC), they've yet to actually rule out last-gen systems, Wii U included. This, coupled with speculation stemming from a new spot to enter your Nintendo Network ID on the Call of Duty website, has led some to believe that Black Ops 3 — or at least a Call of Duty experience — could be headed to Nintendo's console.
Asked why the ability to link Nintendo Network IDs was added to the Call of Duty website if Black Ops 3 wouldn't be coming to Wii U, the official Activision support responded vaguely, "Stay tuned for more Wii U releases."
So far, Black Ops 3 has only been announced for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, but Activision maintains "Actual platform availability and launch date(s) to be determined."
Admission through omission?
Despite a fairly large install base on both the PS4 and Xbox One, it does seem a bit odd that Activision would completely abandon the last generation. Is it possible that Activision is holding out on announcing a last-gen version of the game in hopes of encouraging current-gen console sales? Is another developer working on an entirely new Call of Duty experience created separately for last-gen systems so as not to hold back the advancements of Black Ops 3?
Too often we've seen current-gen games held back by the limitations of last-gen systems. I just think there's too much money in Call of Duty on Xbox 360 and PS3 to ignore those systems entirely. Investors will not be pleased.
Do you want to see Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3, or is it time for people to upgrade to the current-gen?
