The two winners of the Activision Indie Games Competition have been announced. The contest, which featured several entries, was judged by IndieCade, and the two winning games raked in some nice cash rewards for their respective developers.
Taking the first place spot and a reward of $175,000 is Iron Dragon from designer Christopher Hui. The game features airborne action and is being developed for touchscreen devices. Coming in at second place is Michael Stanton's Planet Smashers, which earned the designer a whopping $75,000. This title is centered on jumping across space and landing on several moons, with multiplayer planned for the full release.
Regarding the winners and the competition, Activision Vice President of External Development Dan Winters had the following to say:
We were excited with the quality, creativity and diversity we saw in the submissions we received for the Games Competition. While the games themselves varied, the unifying theme for everyone involved in the competition has been passion. We want to thank the talented developers who submitted their work and our partners at IndieCade. The energy and enthusiasm of the indie community continues to inspire us and we're thrilled to help make their dreams become reality.
It should also be noted that both Hui and Stanton will keep the rights to their IPs, which is just awesome news. Congrats to both winners. Now let's get those games out so we can enjoy 'em!
