With the release of Diablo 3 on consoles earlier this year, lifetime sales for Activision Blizzard's action RPG have surged pass the 14 million mark. Chief Executive Officer of Blizzard Entertainment Michael Morhaime described the company has "pleased" with the response to Diablo 3's launch on PS3 and Xbox 360, pointing out "very positive" reviews.
"Much of the praise has been centered on changes we made to the loot system and our decision to keep the auction house off of the console platform," Morhaime said during the company's Q3 2013 earnings call. "Players and critics alike have noted that these changes have resulted in a more fun and satisfying game experience. That reaction factored in our decision to remove the auction houses from the PC version of Diablo III effective next March, which players have also responded very positively to."
Activision is hoping to build on this success with a new expansion, Reaper of Souls, due out in 2014 for PC and PS4. The new expansion will include the new Crusader player class and more gameplay modes for the endgame.
