Over the past eight years, Eric Hirshberg has been overseeing Activision Publishing as the CEO. In his tenure, the company has published a number of successful titles, including the Skylanders, Call of Duty franchise and Destiny.
“Serving as Activision’s CEO has been an honor and a thrill,” said Hirshberg, in a statement. “This is an amazing company. One which routinely delivers epic experiences for our fans on a scale that no one else can. I have nothing but admiration for the incredible team I have had the privilege to lead. And I have nothing but appreciation for Bobby for giving me this transformational opportunity, and also for having the vision and conviction to champion a creative person for a leadership role on this scale.”
Hirshberg is stepping out of his role at Activision Publishing on a high note, with Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2 having recently been named the top-selling console games of 2017 in North America. Activision is currently looking for a new CEO, but has not settled on who will be taking the role.
Hirshberg’s stepping down from the company has come at an odd time, despite the good news for some of their titles. A recently surfaced patent that showed exploration into unfair matchmaking practices and Destiny 2 has been gaining more and more attention for their advantageous practices.
Or, it could do with the ‘Call of Doodee‘ debacle.
