Actress Drew Barrymore to host ‘intimate’ celebration for Pokémon 20th anniversary

The Pokémon Company today announced that Drew Barrymore will host a “Pokémon afternoon soiree” at Hollywood’s Sunset Tower hotel on Saturday, February 27.

A press release confirms that the “intimate event” will celebrate such Pokémon merchandise as fashion, accessories and décor. Finally, all those Charmander plushies are getting the recognition they deserve.

“I’m immersed in branding and brand expansion every day with my own companies,” Barrymore said, “and I think what Pokémon has done here is so smart and such a perfect way to expand their footprint.”

The penthouse celebration will feature limited edition gift bags and “the hottest Pokémon consumer products.” Barrymore can also expect to compete for the spotlight with special guest, Pikachu.

The soiree comes on the heels of a slew of rumored Pokémon releases. Earlier this week, a Nintendo employee revealed the release of a 3DS title code-named Pokémon Rainbow. More recently, ahead of an upcoming Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct, trademarks for Pokémon Moon and Sun were spotted in the EU.
