Addict Plays 20K Hours of a Game, and Sues the Maker

A man in Hawaii is suing game maker NCSoft for making him so addicted to their game Lineage II, that he is “unable to function independently in usual daily activiies such as getting up, getting dressed, bathing or communicating with family and friends,” reports Wired.

Craig Smallwood claims to have played the game for 20k hours between 2004 and 2009. Furthermore, he says that he wouldn’t have started playing the game had he known that he “would become addicted to the game.” He alleges that NCSoft was negligent by not warning himself and other players of the game of its “dangerous and defective characteristics,” and taken them by the hand to show them the “safe and proper method of using the game.”

U.S. District Judge Alan Kay, according to Wired, refused to dismiss the case. NCSoft continues to ask the judge to dismiss it.
