The hit TV movie series, High School Musical has been sort of an icon for original Disney channel, it launched both Zac Effron and Vanessa Hudgens into the stars they are today while providing many emotional ups and downs in addition to plenty of laughs.
Fans have been teased with the return of High School Musical for quite some time now, but up until now it was all here say. Finally, Disney announced today that a reboot of the franchise will be officially happening.
It will be focused on everyone's favorite High School Basketball team, East High Wildcats and their rivals, the West High Knights. The movie will be reboot which means a whole new set of characters, with the slight chance of an Effron cameo.
Jeffrey Hornaday (Teen Beach, Teen Beach 2) will be directing and choreographing the new movie while Peter Barsocchini returns to write the script alongside Dan Berendsen (Hannah Montana: The Movie)
"High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA," says Disney Channel President Gary Marsh. "It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise."
