Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. mid-season finale reveals a new hero in action, new subtitle and robots

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has become one of the most captivating shows on television and its mid-season finale was nothing short of it. Titled Laws of Inferno Dynamics, the show gave us more than just another Ghost Rider episode.

For one, we finally got to see new S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Jeffrey Mace in action as The Patriot. Sending his team in alone to fight Ghost Rider's uncle Eli Morrow, who also has apparent god powers, wasn't going to fly and his super strength was on full display. Quake (Daisy), Coulson, May, Mac, Yo-Yo and Ghost Rider were all part of the fight against Eli and his Chinese gang. Of course, in the end, they were able to come out on top with one member left in limbo – Ghost Rider.

Now, Ghost Rider can't "die" per se being that he is a demon, but he finds a way to trap both Eli and a nuclear bomb between dimensions and therefore saving the greater Los Angeles area. The Patriot's costume is also a gunmetal colored, shiny body armor suit with the same eagle as in the comics on his chest. At first glance, it appears to be the same as the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo, but it is, in fact, different.

The show returns January 10th and will continue its 10P.M. air time on Tuesday evenings with a new subtitle. Now that Ghost Rider is in limbo, the show will tout the subtitle "LMD". It's an abbreviation for Life Model Decoy or the robot that Radcliffe created called AIDA. As we see in the end of the episode, AIDA has Agent May trapped in a hidden closet in Radcliffe's lab. Director Mace (Patriot) sent another agent to retrieve Radcliffe's belongings as he will now be working under the supervision of S.H.I.E.L.D. The agent finds May, and then quickly gets a neck readjustment from AIDA.

The new promo reveals that it was AIDA herself that came up with this plan, therefore revealing she has evolved past the state understandable by humans or the singularity. We see AIDA say "I've made some upgrades of my own" and then punch Radcliffe in a room surrounded by other agents. It's only a short, 30-second clip so we don't see more, but it looks like it will continue along the lines of action already seen in this season so far.
