Albert Penello: ‘Up to Activision to reveal Call of Duty: Ghosts’ resolution on Xbox One’

In light of Sony's revealing that Call of Duty: Ghosts will run in native 1080p on the PS4, many gamers have turned their attention to Microsoft in hopes of learning if the Xbox One will do the same. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll get an answer.

"The guy that runs 3rd party relations for Xbox is one of my best friends," Microsoft's Director of Product Planning Albert Penello said in a thread on NeoGAF. "And we have to play this information game all the time. He has the utmost respect for the confidentiality of partner details. So I did call him and ask him, and he told me very directly 'You don’t need to know.'"

"Nobody at MS will comment on this," he added. "Most people don't know. This is Activision's product, and it's completely up to them on how/when they want to show this product, why they choose to roll-out their game in a certain way, and what platforms they choose to show it on."

Penello reiterated that he wasn't trying to hide anything or lying. "If I did know, I would have just said 'I can't say'. You all would have gotten the same answer."

In a follow-up post, Penello explained," 3rd party is a separate organization. Phil doesn't know. Most people don't know. That information is kept private.

""You don't need to know" doesn't mean anything," he clarified. "I get that from him all the time, whether it's good news or bad news."

Penello reiterated that this doesn't mean Xbox One won't support 1080p natively. "You should know by now that there is never one answer in all these cases. Sometimes it’s bad, sometimes it’s not," he said. "I’ll be bummed if it’s true. But the fact nobody is saying anything doesn’t make me jump to conclusions."

Does the Xbox One's ability (or inability) to play Call of Duty: Ghosts in native 1080p worry you?
