The much-anticipated Alien prequel, Alien: Covenant, has earned itself an R-rating, with emphasis on the word earned, with its 40-gallon drums of blood. There will be blood, that's a guarantee.
Blood is something good, right? Especially when it's inside your body doing all those vital things that blood does, but it's not that great when it's being spilt out all over the floor and it seems like the team behind Alien: Covenant won't be holding back on the bloodletting and the face hugging. Producer Mark Huffam, in an interview with SFX Magazine, said that: "If you like blood, we’re not going to leave you unsatisfied."
How much blood does it take to not leave a fancier of blood unsatisfied? Well, we won't speculate on that but Huffam continued to say: "Our blood comes in 40-gallon drums, rather than 5-gallon containers." 40-gallon drums, not just one drum but plural, that mean at least 80 gallons worth of blood.
The one who will probably be responsible for most of the spillage is the Xenomorph, who will be present on set as a Mo-Cap actor instead of being solely made in CGI. Director Ridley Scott explained the decision as a way of creating the unpredictable: "Sometimes the physicality of an actor doing something odd that you haven’t thought of, or you don’t want to do digitally, is useful."
Alien: Covenant will be creeping its way into cinemas May 19, and remember, there will be blood.
