Alienware’s Steam Machine releasing in September

Alienware's recently "revealed" Steam Machine will launch some time in September, according to tweets from members of an audience at Valve's Dev Days summit this week — and later confirmed by Dell through IGN.

Alienware first talked about its own Steam Machine at CES last week, but no specs, price, or any sort of details were actually revealed; although, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell did describe it as a "console that encapsulates the full potential of what a Steam Machine should be." Alienware is actually releasing two Steam Machines — one mysterious, one based off the X51 desktop — to allow gamers to choose between different form factors.

We still don't have specs or official pricing for either machine, but Alienware does plan to price the systems competitively with the next-gen consoles, which would place them around the $499 mark.

Valve first revealed Steam Machines late last year, alongside SteamOS, its customized Linux operating system, and its Steam-optimized controller. Prior to the new year, Valve sent out beta units for its own Steam Machine prototype. Other partners working with Valve on Steam Machines are Alternate, CyberPower PC, Falcon Northwest, Gigabyte, iBuyPower, Material.net, Next, Scan Computers, Webhallen, and Zotac.
