Mortal Kombat 11 was revealed in December with a teaser but now, Netherrealm has gone all out with an information blowout. We have story details, gameplay, and more to share down below.
We also have boots on the ground in LA spending hands-on time with Mortal Kombat 11 and getting the opportunity to interview some devs. We’ll have that content up in the coming days but for now, here’s everything we learned from the reveal stream.
The story of Mortal Kombat 11:
While things are still a bit mysterious, it looks like the manipulation of time will be a focus of the story of Mortal Kombat 11. Following the events of MKX, Raiden has become corrupted and becoming vengeful against Shinnok. In his rage, he decapitates Shinnok and leaves his still living head as a warning to those who may attempt to threaten Earthrealm.
With the balance of history upset by Raiden, Kornika, The Keeper of Time, attempts to right the wrongs of time by any means. You can view the prologue cinematic for Mortal Kombat 11 below.
A new fighter joins the battle, Geras:
Geras is a formiddable opponent who serves under Kronika and manipulates sand and time to defeat his foes. He’s brutal, cunning, and as expected, very violent. You can view the trailer for Geras below.
The roster so far:
So far, the Mortal Kombat 11 roster includes Raiden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Geras, Sonya Blade, Skarlet, Baraka, Liu Kang, Shao Kahn and likely others that will be confirmed at a later date. The reveal event showcased 25 character boxes but not all of the characters were shown.
You can see many of the fighters in action in the gameplay trailer below.
Sonya Blade will be played by UFC/WWE fighter Ronda Rousey:
Legendary Earthrealm fighter Ronda Rousey will be lending her voice talents to play Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11. “I’ve been a lifelong Mortal Kombat fan, and Sonya Blade was the first kick-ass, female video game character that I related to,” said Ronda Rousey. “Now I get to voice her in Mortal Kombat 11. It’s a dream come true to be a part of the Mortal Kombat franchise that I grew up playing.”
You can view a behind the scenes video with Rousey below.
Fatalities are better than ever:
Fatalities are a core element of Mortal Kombat and that is no different in MK11. Gore, unbelievable levels of creative violence, and absurdity is all found in this year’s entry of the fighter and you can get a small taste of it in the trailer below.
Mortal Kombat 11 will release on April 23rd, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. If you pre-order, you’ll also gain access to the beta on March 28th, 2019.
