Almost a decade later, Cube World is finally launching next week

Indie developer Picroma has announced that Cube World is coming out next week, on September 30th for PC. The game has been in development for a very long time and was regarded as one of the best indie game projects. Check out the release trailer below!

Now, here’s a title we didn’t expect to hear about ever again. First announced a whopping eight years ago, the cutesy voxel-based action-adventure game Cube World is very close to its release. The surprising news comes after more than five years of radio silence by the indie developer.

We, like many others assumed that this was it for the tale of Cube World but in a very unexpected turn of events developer Wolfram von Fuck, the man behind Picroma, has recently started to release new updates to his project. With close to a decade of work put into it, there’s no question that Cube World is a true labor of love and thanks to the game’s timeless voxel-based aesthetics, time has been rather nice towards it.

More than just the visuals, it’s the breadth of actual gameplay which elevated Cube World above many other indie games. When watching the new trailer, you wouldn’t be taken amiss for seeing an amalgamation of two other great titles. The large open-world which incites exploration with various means of transport like gliders and birds, on top of the blocky visuals are reminiscing of Minecraft and Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Here’s some more details about the game’s features via the developer:

  • Choose between four different classes: Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Rogue.
  • Action-based combat with dodging, aiming, combos, special skills and more.
  • Explore a nearly infinite, procedurally generated fantasy world.
  • Plan your next adventure with the 3D voxel world map. Scroll and zoom everywhere to find your next destination!
  • Craft weapons, armor, potions, elixirs and food and more from ingredients found throughout the world.
  • Tame pets that fight along your side and can be used as mounts.
  • Non-linear, open world gameplay. Solve quests, help residents, fight huge monsters, explore ancient dungeons! It’s all up to you!
  • Discover procedurally generated lore and learn about ancient civilizations and magic artifacts.
  • Retrieve unique magic artifacts to level up and improve your skills.
  • Earn gold to buy items or to book an eagle flight to new lands.
  • Cube World’s unique per-land progression system makes finding loot, solving quests and clearing dungeons rewarding and exciting over and over again.
  • Use your hang glider to take to the skies or explore the oceans with your boat.
  • Find magic items to enter secret areas and to support you on your journey.
  • Play solo singleplayer or join your friends in coop-online-multiplayer.
