Amazon Studios working on Lord of the Rings TV series; Gets Multiple-Season Commitment

If you thought the Lord of the Rings film series was more than enough to satisfy your J.R.R. Tolkien needs or that anything beyond those Peter Jackson films was unnecessary, you might want to sit down for this. Amazon Studios is going to make a Lord of the Rings TV series.

Amazo Studios has recently announced that they have acquired the global television rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise and are committed to making a multiple-season series. It could even see a spin-off series.

Amazon's LOTR series will be set in Middle Earth and explore new storylines preceding Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.

“The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, Amazon's new head of scripted. “We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”

No release window was given.
