I just got my PlayStation 3 at the beginning of 2011, so it bothers me when analysts insist that the next generation of gaming consoles is coming. I mean, Sony and Microsoft are telling us that their respective systems have about five or six years left in them, but then here come the analysts stating otherwise. Apparently, the new wave of consoles may come as early as 2013.
Analyst Colin Sebastian of RW Baird made some comments regarding Sony and Microsoft's next move. It had previously been speculated that the next Xbox console would drop before the PlayStation 4. Sebastian, however, believes that this is not the case.
Speaking to IndustryGamers, the analyst said, "I doubt they will be ready for launch in 2012. Between Sony and Microsoft, we expect Sony to be the first to market perhaps as early as 2013, but more likely in 2014. There is still a lot of investment for both companies to recoup in the current generation."
I can stand a new console generation beginning in 2014 or 2015. Given how advanced the current HD consoles are, though, it's tough thinking how much more the manufacturers can push their hardware. One thing is certain: analysts continue to mention different launch periods for the next generation of platforms, and they seem to like contradicting one another just for the sake of doing it.
