Andrew Garfield basically confirms that Sony had no idea what they were doing with Spider-Man

Good thing it ended when it did.

The Amazing Spider-Man was a pretty messy series of films. Sony focused too much on setting up sequels rather than making an actual good movie. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was basically a trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and the Sinister Six spin-off movie. The movies were filled with mystery and part of that mystery came from a mysterious shadowy figure only referred to as "The Gentleman" in the credits. No one really knows who he is or what his plan was, not even Andrew Garfield or maybe even Sony!

After being asked about the identity of "The Gentleman", former Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, says he has no idea who that character was. "I don't know that the filmmakers knew who the hell that guy was! [Laughs] I don't know, actually. I actually don't know. No. But the good news is that now none of us are ever going to find out, because that version of Spider-Man is no longer. Now we got Tom Holland, who I really think is going to do some beautiful stuff."

Garfield seems to be pretty glad that Marvel is back in control of Spider-Man now as he also recently spoke out about how he loves Tom Holland's take on the iconic character. It's great to see Garfield acknowledging the issues with his own movies and not being bitter about more or less being replaced.

Andrew Garfield's next movie, Hacksaw Ridge, will release on November 4th, 2016. Tom Holland's first solo outing as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming will release July 7th, 2017.
