Before The Amazing Spider-Man 3 got thrown into the pile of films that never happened, Andrew Garfield had been prodding at Sony to team up with Marvel and work together to bring The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to life. Whether Garfield's intentions were to have crossovers into other films like the upcoming Spider-Man will be, is unknown — at least the intention was there.
Speaking with Uproxx, Garfield revealed that he had the hopes Sony and Marvel would unite forces, but couldn't disclose why it didn't happen with him acting as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
“I’ve been petitioning to hook up with Marvel since the beginning, so I’m really glad they’re finally doing it…To be honest [pauses], all the ins and outs of what happened is a more tender conversation that maybe I don’t want to talk about in public in a press situation. But all I can say is that I’m stoked to go and watch a Marvel film of Spider-Man.”
Damn you Garfield and your need to keep what happened private! Captain America: Civil War will give us our first-look at 19-year old Tom Holland in the role of Spider-Man, instead of Garfield. His statement to Uproxx seamed kind hearted enough, but somewhere in there was the sound of shattered hopes and dreams.
