The PlayStation VR is one of the hottest pieces of tech on the market right now. It's somewhat affordable compared to its competitors, it's easy to use, you don't need a crazy gaming rig, and it has tons of great games. Despite it releasing in early October, the revolutionary headset has been pretty hard to find.
Stores have been out of stock since about November and whenever they get restocked, they're gone in a matter of minutes. Why is this? Well, Sony didn't expect it to be such a major success. According to Sony Interactive Entertainment's Global Chief Executive Andrew House, Sony didn't expect it to be such a success and decided to manufacture a limited amount as to not over produce them.
“It’s the classic case in any organization — the guys who are on the front end in sales are getting very excited, very hyped up,” Mr. House said. “You have to temper that with other voices inside the company, myself among them, saying let’s just be a little bit careful.”
Turns out, they severely underproduced them! Right now, the headset has sold upwards of 915,000 units and the company expects to hit a million by mid-April. “You literally have people lining up outside stores when they know stock is being replenished,” said House when speaking about the overwhelming demand.
For those looking to get their hands on one of the PSVR headsets, House says that more units will be made readily available in April.
