Angry Birds 2 launching this month

"Bigger, Badder, Birdier"

The original Angry Birds launched in 2009 on mobile platforms and became such a hit, it spawned countless spinoffs including licensed products like Star Wars, and even a dip into the RPG format. Now, six years later, it looks like Rovio is returning to its roots.

Yesterday, the company teased an impending announcement for Angry Birds 2, the sequel to the company's super addictive physics game in which you launch, well, angry birds at various types of pigs. Though we thought a more official announcement was coming on July 28th, turns out the actual game is releasing July 30.

An officiall announcement was made today:

"Back in December 2009, when we were just a small games studio, we released our 52nd game featuring colorful birds, green pigs, a slingshot and a super catchy theme tune. Fast forward to 2015 and that game, Angry Birds, has taken the world by storm.

With 3 billion game downloads, millions of fans across the globe, multiple mashups and spin-offs, collaborations with A-list celebrities and much more, we’re really proud that Angry Birds is the mother of all mobile game apps. And now we’re proud to announce the mother of all sequels – Angry Birds 2!"

It looks like the date teased yesterday was a preview of sorts, so we should see all sorts of new details and possibly previews pop up over the next few weeks leading up to the Angry Birds 2's highly anticipated release on July 30th.
