Angry Birds developer creating Amazing Alex next

Rovio Mobile has confirmed that its next game will be Amazing Alex, due out in two months.

"The quality pressure is high," CEO Mikael Hed told Yle, describing the game as having an educational focus through its titular protagonist, whose passion is building things. "We want to maintain the high standard Angry Birds fans have come to enjoy."

Amazing Alex is based on Casey's Contraptions, an IP the Finnish developer recently purchased from Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut.

"The gameplay is a perfect fit in our arsenal with its approachable, fun, and highly addictive take on the physics puzzler genre," Rovio's VP of franchise development Ville Heijari added, speaking to Gamasutra. "We are currently reworking the title to enhance it, and getting ready to re-introduce it in a true 'expect the unexpected' Rovio style launch to an even larger audience."

The new franchise will complement the existing Angry Birds brand, which recently exceeded one billion downloads.
