Angry Birds downloaded 8 million times on Christmas day, 30 million for the week

As we reported earlier, over 17 million Android and iOS devices were activated on Christmas day. So it should come as no surprise then that Rovio's Angry Birds, one of the most popular mobile games, saw incredible success that same day.

Posting about their yearly achievements in the latest blog post, Rovio boasted that Angry Birds was downloaded 8 million times on Christmas day. Furthermore, the game had 30 million downloads during the week (December 22-29).

Over the year, Rovio released quite a few mobile games — Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars, and Bad Piggies to name a few — as well as two top-rated Facebook games. Angry Birds Star Wars and Bad Piggies in particular have dominated the app charts with the former holding the #1 position on the U.S. iPhone chart since its release.

"It’s been an amazing year and we can’t thank our fans enough for their fantastic support. Stay tuned in 2013 for even more incredible surprises!" Rovio said.
