Angry Birds helps fuel Rovio’s $67 million profit

Mobile entertainment company Rovio Entertainment, most famous for Angry Birds, has announced the financial results for the full calendar years of 2011.

Leading Rovio's $106.3 million total revenue earned, of which earnings before tax amounted to $67.6 million, was hit game Angry Birds.  The Consumer Products area of Rovio, which includes both merchandising and licensing income, generated about 30% of Rovio's total revenue in 2011.

 "The strong growth in revenue clearly demonstrates the popularity of the Angry Birds brand.” Rovio CEO Mikael Hed said. “The heavy investments made in 2011 to all business areas will be seen in future products. To ensure continuous success we need to be creative and stay focused on entertaining our millions of fans by continuously developing new and innovative products and services."

In 2011 Rovio offered three games, all based on the Angry Birds characters: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons,and Angry Birds Rio.  The total number of game downloads reached 648 million by the end of 2011 and the total number of active monthly users, across all platforms, reached 200 million.

Looking forward to 2012, Rovio is "very optimistic" due to significant investments in product development, cutting-edge branding, brand protection, and corporate infrastructure.
