Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp surprised us with a release announcement for the day before Thanksgiving, but it turned out to be a double surprise when it actually released the day before on November 22. With such a trick, one might think it would take a while for the public to catch up. But that turns out to not be the case, as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has hit 15 million downloads in a week.
Technically, it’s only been six days, but that only makes the 15 million mark that much more impressive. These numbers come from SensorTower, and the number may have a lot to do with the game being free to download. Nevertheless, it’s now ranked as Nintendo’s second most successful mobile launch behind Super Mario Run.
To compare, Super Mario Run had 32 million downloads worldwide during its first week of release. If Pocket Camp can reach Super Mario Run’s current download number at 200 million, then we’d likely see another huge success.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has microtransactions, which have been a hot topic lately, although they’re completely optional to do things such as speed up in-game upgrades. It’s available now on iOS and Android.
