Once upon a time, way back in 2006, SEGA had plans to publish two games based on the Aliens franchise: an RPG and an FPS. The RPG was to be developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas); the latter became what today is known as Aliens: Colonial Marines, a colossal disappointment from Gearbox.
As the story goes, in 2009, the Aliens RPG was canceled without explanation. Adding salt to the wound, the game was just about ready to ship — whatever you consider that to be. I mean, Aliens: Colonial Marines did ship and we saw what we got with that. Fans today are now left wondering 'what if'.
Well, over the weekend, we might have gotten a glimpse at what could have been. Footage of the canceled Aliens RPG has surfaced. First posted on the Guru3D forum, the video appears to be uploaded by character artist Danny Garnett who claims the game was titled Aliens Crucible. The video shows off various animations from the game — many of which could give Aliens: Colonial Marines a good run for its money.
We don't know exactly how old this footage is, though the video was uploaded one month ago. Even with its age, many of the movements seem more fluid than what we had in Aliens: Colonial Marines. The Aliens RPG was to be released for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. As I mentioned previously, it was announced back in 2006.
