Another ‘The Simpsons Movie’ might still happen

There's a chance.

Nearly 10 years ago exactly, The Simsons Movie released to fairly positive reviews. Today, the TV series is preparing to debut it's 29th season, but there hasn't been talk of another film for the series. Al Jean and director David Silverman, the folks behind the original Simpsons movies from 2007 spoke with EW on the possibility of another film for the franchise.

According to the two, they have talked about it, but it wouldn't be done just for the sake of making more money.

“I’d love for there to be another one,” says Silverman. “We’re still a ways away from it. We talk about this and that. We’re thinking it over, but nothing’s happening just yet.…. It’s still daunting because it really knocked the stuffing out of us to do the movie and the show at the same time.”

As for what was discussed, Jean clarified that the discussions were “just in the vaguest strokes, just in the possibility of it. I’d say [it’s in] the very earliest stages.”

Jean detailed that the movie would be a passion project, not a money milking project.

“I certainly am cautious about a couple things,” says Jean. “I wouldn’t want it to be risky in terms of budget, and I would not want it to be anything that we did purely for the money. I would want it to be a really great movie. I personally feel no need for another one unless it’s great.”
