Anthem video series kicks off with Story, Progress and Customization

Electronic Arts has shared a new video which is aimed to explain the world and gameplay of the online-action shooter Anthem in greater detail. Fittingly named This is Anthem, the video series starts by giving a better look at the story, progress and customization of the game. Check it out!

With roughly one month left until the highly-awaited Anthem is coming out, developer Dice and EA have started a new video series focusing on what players can expect to do and experience come February 22nd on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Anthem has some pretty big expectations to fulfill, it’s EA’s Games-as-a-Service answer to the popular Destiny after all. On top of that, none other than BioWare is handling the realization of the ambitious online experience.

Keeping that in mind, this new video series is helpful to understand and realistically create expectations on what it actually is going to be players will be doing in the game. EA previously shared a similar video which focused on the player character and his crew, while also giving a glimpse on the bigger world. Now, we learn more about the details of living in Anthem’s futuristic world.

And what a world that is. Despite lush wildlands and scenic views, the world at hand is a dangerous place at the cusp of great destruction. After the Shaper Gods abandoned their creation, humanity was forced to create fortified cities in order to survive. One of those is our main hub, Fort Tarsis. It’s here where our crew is, where we prepare for missions and return after completing tasks. The outside world is full of dangerous monsters and hostile factions alike. Only with the use of Javelins, powerful exo-suits, humans can stand a chance of venturing outside.

We play the role of a Freelancer, an elite group of Javelin users whose duty is to protect humanity and uncover the mysteries that lie beyond the safety of cities. The most important artifact of the Shaper Gods is the Anthem of Creation. With the immense power to create and destroy life and the world itself, it’s crucial that no villainous group attains it. Chief among them is the Dominion.

In order to fight for the power of the Anthem, we’ll need Javelins and lots of them. After unlocking the four base Javelin suits, which excel at a specific play-style, players can customize and build any number of load-outs, creating the perfect Javelin for every mission. Every Javelin offers a variety of customization slots and one Ultimate Power unique to its class.

Once set up, you can choose to either do mission stories, enter Strongholds or discover the open-world at your leisure in Freeplay. The later is set to offer unique experiences by discovering secrets, doing activities and receiving missions along the way. As an online game, you’ll be able to call in friends at any time and enjoy Anthem with squads up to four players.

In the next instalment of this video series, we’ll get a closer look at aforementioned Strongholds, the shared world of Anthem and the endgame.
