Apple announces iPad Pro

Biggest news in iPad since the iPad

In what Apple is calling the "biggest news in iPad since the iPad," the company unveiled today the iPad Pro.

Described as the most capable and powerful iPad Apple has ever created, the iPad Pro boasts a 12.9" screen diagonally with 5.6 million pixels (more than a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display). As explained by Apple, the larger screen allows for a more cinematic experience when watching movies, or truly immersive gaming. Functionally, the screen size allows for a full-sized software keyboard.

Technically, the iPad Pro runs with an A9X chip, Apple's 3rd Generation 64-bit chip with 2x memory bandwidth and 2x faster storage performance than the A8X. It's also up to 1.8x faster than the A8X. Compared to the PC market, the iPad Pro will be faster than 80 percent of the portable PCs that have shipped this year.

The iPad Pro also features a new Smart Connector, three buttons on the side of the device that carries power and dater and connects magnetically to the newly revealed Smart Keyboard, a full-featured physical keyboard created specifically for the iPad Pro.

The iPad Pro will be available this November. As expected, pricing is determined by the model you choose.

  • 32GB (Wi-Fi) – $799
  • 128GB (Wi-Fi) – $949
  • 128GB (Wi-Fi + Cellular) – $1079

The Smart Keyboard is priced at $169, while the Apple Pencil, a fancy stylus, will cost $99.
