Apparently, the changes introduced with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were enough to convince the masses they need an upgrade as Apple announced today that it has sold over 10 million of the newly modeled phones — just three days after the launch on September 19th.
In a statement today, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the record-breaking sales "exceeded" the company's expectations, adding that they "couldn't be happier."
“We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin," he said. "While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”
Apple is calling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus the "biggest advancements" in iPhone history, as the two models boast a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Regina HD Display, respectively. Both models also include the Apple-designed A8 chip with second generation 64-bit desktop-class architecture for fast performance and power efficiency; advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras; ultrafast wireless technologies; and Apple Play, an "easier way to simply and securely make payments with just the touch of a finger."
Coinciding with the phones' launch was the release of iOS 8 (already included on the iPhone 6), featuring a "simpler, faster and more intuitive user experience" with new Messages and Photos features, predictive typing for Apple's QuickType keyboard and Family Sharing.
The iPhone 6 comes in gold, silver, or "space gray" and is available starting at $199 for the 16GB. The iPhone 6 Plus comes in the same colors and starts at $299 for the 16 GB model.
