Apple has revealed that the company's eagerly awaited smartwatch is expected to ship sometime in April 2015.
Apple CEO announced the release window during the company's first quarter earnings call, adding "We're making great progress in the development of it."
Apple's smartwatch was first unveiled back in September 2014. It's Apple's first entry into the wearable tech sector. The smartwatch allows the wearer to send and receive messages, answer calls, or use it as a health and fitness accessory. Unlike most Apple products which utilize touch controls, the smartwatch will make use of a dial on the side, which Apple refers to as the digital "Crown". You know that twisty knob on the side of traditional watches? It's kind of like that, except it will scroll, zoom, and navigate through the interface.
The smartwatch will come in three versions: the regular model, a sport version designed for a more active lifestyle, and a premium model with an 18-karat gold case. The starting price is set for $349.
In other news, Apple posted record quarterly revenue of $74.6 billion and a quarterly net profit of $18 billion. The sales results are said to have been fueled by "all-time record revenue" from iPhone and Mac sales. iPhone sales also set a new record, with 74.5 million sold in the quarter.
