Apple’s “strange” February event fuels iPad 3 March debut hype

A new "strange" February event hosted by Apple could be leading up to an iPad 3 reveal in the coming weeks in anticipation of a March release.

According to AppleInsider, Japanese website Macotakara informed tech followers last month that an inside source in the U.S. and Asian suppliers indicated Apple would hold an event in February to unveil the iPad 3 and iOS 5.1.

However, a new post from Macotakara's Danbo reveals the site's original story only told a "half-side of the truth".

Apple will still be holding an event in February involving the iPad 3, but it won't be a full product launch or showcasing the tablet's new features.

Instead, Apple will be hosting a "'Strange' Event in February" that will come before a "Special Event to launch the third-generation iPad in early March".

Danbo didn't provide any details as to what this "strange" event will be, but he did say it would not be a standard event.

If true, these newest reports fall in line with earlier rumors that Apple is indeed planning a March release date for the iPad 3 with production already underway.  If that is the case, then this "strange" event could be Apple hyping the eventual iPad 3 unveiling with some sort of new software announcement similar to when they released the iBooks 2 and the iBooks Author.
