Apple Teases Users with New OS 4.2 Update

While Apple had already released the upgrade for iTunes 10.1 last Friday, the 4.2 operating system had not yet been released due to problems with the iPad. Among the new features of iTunes 10.1 include AirPlay, which lets users wirelessly stream video from iTunes to Apple TV, and other fixes to performance and stability issues.

However, people who update will not be able to fully utilize 10.1 until Apple gets its iOS 4.2 out, according to information week. That is coming tomorrow on November 16th. Although Apple hasn’t given any specifics on what iOS 4.2 will encompass, analysts believe that Apple will eventually let iPhone users stream their iTunes libraries across the Internet. Whether or not this new update will have any affect on app store applications remains to be seen.

Apple had previously released the Golden Master iOS 4.2 update on November 1st, which led speculators to predict a mid-November launch. However, due to the iPad’s internal problem of dropping off of Wi-Fi connections after only a few minutes, 4.2 was delayed. Among the newest guaranteed features in the new update is the ability to print over a Wi-Fi connection.
