Aquaman Director: ‘No comment’ on Black Manta rumors

Hollywood has some of the worst plumbing in the world. Leaks here, leaks there, leaks are everywhere. Apparently, that's exactly what happened when The Wrap reported that the upcoming Aquaman movie would be featuring Black Manta as the main villain. When asked about it, Director James Wan expressed a mix of ignorance, surprise, and humor. He said:

"I want to know where Wrap got that piece of news from. Come on, I can’t talk about this…I’m not saying anything….No comment is my comment."

It's worth noting that he was laughing as he said these things, so I have to imagine he was nervous about the idea that the information had gotten out.

Black Manta as the film's main villain makes a ton of sense considering that DC will need to have the stakes high for a hero who has yet to have his own major motion picture, coupled with the many (MANY) jokes regarding Aquaman's power to talk to fish. This isn't to mention the struggles that DC has endured with Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, so you know that Warner Brothers is itching for a universal success. Perhaps Black Manta can help Aquaman be that movie.
