ARK: Survival Evolved will get Xbox Play Anywhere support later this year

If ARK: Survival Evolved feels like it's been out of the news recently, that's because it has. Studio Wildcard has been hard at work trying to get the game ready for full release in December, and one of the things they are aiming to have finished (alongside that) is Xbox Play Anywhere support.

In a lengthy update post on SurviveTheArk.com, the developer talked at length about the upcoming Patch 251 with numerous enhancements and new dinosaurs. However, one ARK player wanted to know what the studio's plans were for Xbox Play Anywhere support for the game. Here is the exchange:

Survivor, Szat74 asks, “Do you have any timeframe for when ark will be compatable with Xbox play anywhere/windows 10 gaming? I know it's been planned since Xbox play anywhere was unveiled but I wanted to know if you had a basic time frame in mind… Thanks for all the hard work and outstanding updates! Keep it up”

Studio Wildcard: "We’re working on it (on the side), requires reformatting ARK’s application handling to work with Universal Windows Platform. Hard to predict exactly when it’ll be ready to release at the moment, but it’s looking like December!"

So there's no official concrete date, and given ARK's history of delays, it would be wise to expect the feature to be pushed into 2017. Especially as it is being developed "on the side" and that the studio's target date to move the game out of Early Access is in December, so you'd have to imagine that there's quite a lot on their plate at the moment.

ARK: Survival Evolved is expected to release in full this December 2016.
