Ashley Johsnon, the actress responsible for bringing Ellie to life in Naughty Dog's The Last of Us game, has just one requirement for whoever Sony casts to play that same character in the upcoming film adaptation.
"Selfishly, the only requirement I would want is that they love it as much as I do," she told IGN, jokingly adding, "which is clearly not going to happen."
"But to at least have played the game so they know what it was, but who knows if that's going to happen," she continued. "I know somebody could do an amazing job with it and I think they will."
Over the weekend, it was revealed that Game of Thrones co-star Maisie William, who plays Arya Stark in the HOB television series, was in the running to play Ellie in The Last of Us movie. During a SDCC panel, Sony also revealed the first poster for the movie. It shows Ellie, from her mid-face down to her waist, wielding a shiv, a popular weapon of choice in the game.
One thing is for certain, whoever gets cast as Ellie better be up for the role. After the amazing performance by Ashley Johnson, I have a hard time imagining anyone else bringing the character to life.
