Assassin’s Creed 3 becomes the UK’s second biggest launch title of 2012

Assassin's Creed 3's American Revolution setting hasn't prevented the game from becoming a smash hit in the UK. Officially releasing on Wednesday, Assassin's Creed 3 has become Ubisoft's "biggest launch title" while taking the top spot in the UK's All Formats sales chart for the week ending November 3, 2012.

According to GfK Chart TrackAssassin's Creed 3 has sold "almost double" the amount of Assassin's Creed 2 and has outperformed Ubisoft's previous best, last year's Assassin's Creed: Revelations by over 117,000 units.

Despite its alleged emphasis on the Revolutionary War, Assassin's Creed 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3 — which launched alongside the PS Vita's AC: Liberation — has "easily" become the UK's second biggest launch title of the year, trailing only FIFA 13. The Xbox 360 version of the game has accounted for 59% of sales with 41% on PS3. A release for the PC version of the game will follow shortly.

Last week's number oneMedal of Honor: Warfighter fell all the way to number six with a 46% drop in sales. FIFA 13, on the other hand, enjoyed a slight 2% drop in sales and remained at number two. New titles WWE 13Football Manager 13, and Need for Speed Most Wanted debuted at four, five, and six, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 was Forza Horizon, Skylanders Giants, Just Dance 4, and Dishonored.

This week, we see the launch of several more big titles including the highly-anticipated Xbox 360-exclusive Halo 4, which is set to release on November 6.
