Assassin’s Creed film to start filming this summer

In late 2011, we began hearing about the Assassin's Creed movie. We then learned that Michael Fassbender (X-Men, Prometheus) would be taking the lead role in the film, whose screenplay was still under development in the fall of 2012. Earlier this year, the Assassin's Creed film finally entered production, meaning they could start filming.

It's finally happening, and the Assassin's Creed film is set to start filming this September and release on December 21, 2016 – a week after Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases in theaters.

Speaking with ComingSoon.net, Michael Fassbender revealed that the delay in production came from developing the scripts and story, “It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It’s exciting. It’s going to start this year, we’ll be filming in September.”

We aren't sure what game or time period the film will be based off of, but it looks like Sony's team broke down the game as much as possible to get a "simple story" that translated well:

 “That’s always the challenge of something that’s so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things. So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story.”

It looks like we have a long while to go before we get anything close to a teaser for the film.
