Assassin’s Creed: Origins’ Loot Boxes can only be bought with in-game currency

Loot boxes are two of the most prominent trigger words among gamers these days as AAA publishers continue to add them to their games. Ubisoft has elected to reintroduce them into Assassin's Creed: Origins, a single player only experience, which is something that's not sitting well with more vocal gamers. In a pre-launch livestream that aired earlier today, Ubisoft confirmed that Origins' loot boxes would only be purchasable with in-game currency.

Here's a clip with the confirmation courtesy of Twitch user GAddict1.

What the clip doesn't answer is whether or not purchasing in-game currency with real money will be a thing. Given that both Unity and Syndicate had microtransactions in them, it'd be a more significant surprise if Origins didn't have them. Plus, with the notion of "Games as a Service" moving into the mainstream way that publishers market games, Ubisoft would be dumb not to do this, since it's apparently proven that gamers are willing to throw down more money on the games they buy.

Assassin's Creed: Origins releases on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 27th, 2017.
