Assassin’s Creed search engine brings internet to the 19th century

Mock up engine brings the internet to Victorian London

Ever wonder what it would be like if the internet had existed in the 19th century? Well, wonder no longer as Ubisoft has created the Assassin's Creed search engine for Assassin's Creed Syndicate

Showing what the world wide web would look like if it existed for our great, great, great grandparents, the engine is available and functional now. As a test, we searched "football" and results were rather interesting. The top two links provided headlines of old english football and new rules that were instituted. Basically, the search engine throws in various headlines from the era of 1868 Victorian London along with articles about the game itself.

For example, if you search "video games", the number one result is about a "mysterious hooded female" which serves as the local citizens are attempting to figure out who Evie Frye is and why she's killing everyone. The search engine is filled with hundreds of pieces of original content – painstakingly researched and catalogued – which will allow fans to discover the forgotten facts of this celebrated era. Although a mock up, the research that went into this engine is incredible as there are hundreds, if not thousands, of real stories from the 1800's organized as if it was present day Google.

Let us know what you think below and be sure to check out the engine as it's functional now. Assassin's Creed Syndicate releases October 23rd on PS4 and Xbox One.
